“Foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

--Matthew 8:20

Can you imagine spending the night on a park bench, in an abandoned building, in your car, under a bridge, or some other place not fit to live?

Can you imagine if that night was Christmas Eve?

Most of us could never picture ourselves in that situation. We have food to eat, a warm comfortable home to sleep in, health, a job, a car, and the love and support of family and friends.

Last year, a total of 58 men, women, and children in Fayette County found themselves homeless on Christmas Eve.

They would have been out in the cold had it not been for the shelter/housing programs of City Mission-Living Stones, Inc., in Uniontown, PA.

You are the kind of person who would never ever want someone to experience homelessness—especially at Christmas. Will you show us that you care for homeless men, women, and children by giving this Christmas? Your gift now will help us shelter the homeless in our community all year long!

For 30 years, City Mission has tirelessly worked in Fayette County providing shelter and support services to 450 homeless men, women, and children at our two emergency homeless shelters annually. Most arrive with a large black plastic garbage bag containing all they own. Some come sick, others with no identification, still others come hungry and dirty, desperate for a kind word and a friendly face. Regardless of how they arrive at our door, it is our privilege to help and support them, treating each one with compassion, dignity, respect, and demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.

“One wrong move and I fell short to the point that I was sleeping in my car. I didn’t know where I was going to use the bathroom or get a drink of water. I heard about the shelter, so I called. I was very overwhelmed, in tears, and embarrassed. They told me to be here in 30 minutes. I was so comfortable from day one. I can see the flicker of light at the end of the tunnel now.” -Michelle

“In 2020, one illness put me in a homeless situation. I was accepted into the transitional housing program at City Mission. I am now a resident of permanent supportive housing and a proud board member of City Mission. I have so much gratitude for what they do. If it wasn’t for City Mission, I don’t know where I would be.”-Marcella

“I ran into some housing difficulties and came to the shelter City Mission assists you in so many ways. In three weeks, I went from being denied housing to moving into an apartment.” -Chris

These stories are only a fraction of what we hear, as we provide over 3,000 shelter nights yearly at City Mission.

Did you know that for only $25, you can provide shelter for a homeless person? For that small amount of money, City Mission is able to offer food, clothing, care and comfort to the homeless as well as a warm, safe place to stay. We are so grateful for friends like you who are willing to share the burden of caring for and showing the mercy and love of Jesus Christ to the most needy among us. We need your help now more than ever!

Please join us in caring for those who are homeless by making a tax-deductible gift of $25/1 shelter night, $50/2 nights, $100/4 nights, or $350/2-week stay, to help cover the cost of their stay in our shelters. The entire cost of providing food, clothing and emergency shelter is provided free of charge to the homeless, so we count on the support of our community to help keep our shelter doors open.

Your gift today will allow a homeless family or individual to spend this Christmas season in safety and warmth rather than out in the cold.

Thank you for being a friend to City Mission and may the Lord richly bless you!

Sincerely,

Randal Fields

Board Chairman
